Frequently asked questions
Questions families ask most.
What does GeneSprout actually test for?
GeneSprout screens for ${CONDITION_COUNT} pediatric genetic conditions using whole exome or whole genome sequencing — depending on the test you choose. Our condition list is curated by clinicians and focused exclusively on actionable findings: conditions where knowing early leads to better monitoring, earlier treatment, or more informed care decisions. You can browse the full condition list in our Condition Explorer.
How long does it take to receive results?
Once your sample arrives at our lab, results are typically ready within four weeks. You'll receive an email notification when your results are available in your secure portal. If anything in your results warrants follow-up, a member of our health navigation team will reach out to you directly.
What happens if a genetic finding is identified?
Health navigation is included if your child’s results identify a genetic finding. A member of our health navigation team — a pediatrician, rare disease specialist, or genetic counselor — will be available to you to walk through the finding in plain language, answer your questions, and help you understand what next steps, if any, are recommended. You are never left to interpret a result alone.
Is my child's genetic data kept private?
Your child's genetic data belongs to your family — not to us. GeneSprout never sells, shares, or uses your child's data for research without your explicit consent. All results are delivered through a HIPAA-compliant, secure portal. You control who has access to your data, and you can request deletion of your data at any time. See our full privacy policy for details.
